Korenix PoE switches ensure security of Basra Sports Complex in Iraq

When selecting hardware and software for video surveillance projects, one of the key objectives is to ensure a high quality, live video system with no time delays, particularly if the location or building is used frequently by members of the public and where security is of the utmost importance.

The Basra Sports Complex in Southern Iraq is one such location. The complex itself, which comprises of two football stadiums, as well as training pitches, hotels and apartments, was built to entertain up to 100,000 people in a single 800,000 square meter location. Security is therefore absolutely critical.

High definition IP cameras are installed in many locations across the Complex, including the main gates, entrances, parking zones, auditoriums, corridors and storage areas. However, managing and ensuring a reliable network infrastructure and video surveillance system throughout the Complex was a huge challenge for the project managers. The network must provide fast recovery on redundancy if a security threat or disaster occurs.

How to ensure high defination IP video of critical infrastructure is always available

From security systems for public buildings to motorway traffic monitoring and city surveillance systems, high definition IP video surveillance is a rapidly growing market, where the quality of the network determines the reliability and quality of video delivery.

Network redundancy is therefore a key factor in selecting the most appropriate solution. Ensuring that high definition IP video of critical infrastructure is always available, while minimising deployment and running costs, are equally important.

Why are PoE enabled Switches so popular with System Integrators?

Observing from our sales activities at Korenix UK sales office, the demand for PoE enabled switches has increased quickly in the past years. We couldn't help but wonder: why are PoE switches so popular?

Talking to our customers, particularly those who are system integrators, they commented that the main contributing factors is the cost savings that it offers over old style installations.

With the market looking to squeeze every last penny of savings from the project, the lure of not having to buy additional power supplies for every location a camera is going to be installed at, makes the system integrators who’s bottom line that comes from very happy.

The ability the Korenix low DC input power PoE switches offer is exactly this factor that  many System Integrators have commented on: it is turning the tide in actual applications where before an additional DC-DC power supply was needed or they would have to also make a special AC power install to the location just to get the PoE switch to run is no longer necessary.

The benefits are not only to installation time, cost but also equipment needed, which of course satisfy multiple needs in the end.
